Thank you Dr. King: the world is better because you lived and dreamed.

Thank you Dr. King: America is a better country because you lived and dreamed.

Thank you Dr. King: you dared to dream.  You dared to speak out against injustice without resorting to violence that would have rendered your work null and void.

I’m sorry, Dr. King: as much as everyone is free, not everyone feels the same brotherhood you envisioned.

Relax, Dr. King: there are people who are trying to carry on with your message and who would make you proud.

And by the way, Dr. King: thank you for the day off.  It’s not only a delicious treat in the middle of cold January, but a true measure of how much you and your message mean to all of us.  We celebrate and rest today in memory of your birthday– something that most Presidents or political activists do not get to claim.

Thank you for reminding us of the "fierce urgency of now."  It is a tenet we should all, and always, remember.
