Sometimes things happen in life that make me get all PSA on you guys.
Today was one of such days.

I won’t go into the particulars of why I feel I should tell you what I’m about to tell you, but I feel very strongly when I tell you this: ALWAYS HAVE AN EMERGENCY PLAN FOR YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY!!!!!
I don’t mean necessarily the three gallons of drinking water and days’ worth of food kind of backup plan, either. I think it’s easy to get cavalier and forget that real natural disasters can happen anywhere and not just in Tornado Alley, along the San Andreas Fault or in the Big Island of Hawaii: a disaster can happen anywhere, to anyone, and at any time, and not just of the "natural" variety.
Do you have an emergency contact on you?
Do you have your local police number or non-emergency number programmed into your cell phone or written in a place where it’s highly visible at home?
Do you keep cash with you (not in your wallet) that you can access in case of an emergency?
Do you have any important telephone numbers memorized in case something happens and your cell phone or address book is nowhere to be found?
Do you know what to do, what to bring, where to meet with your loved ones in case of a major emergency where going back home is not an option?
Do you have a ladder to escape from in case of fire?
Do you have a fire extinguisher for a kitchen fire?
Do you know CPR?
What will you do if your comfort zone is pushed and the rules of the game change in one single instant, with a look or the angry fist of a prowler, or the beating of a crowbar against glass, or the sudden icy-cold realization that you’re missing your wallet?
Or even with the unsettling repetition of an IP address on your website statistics?

Sometimes it takes being a little rattled and getting the adrenaline rushing through your veins to be able to see clearly; to grasp what is truly important. And to get you thinking about what you will do when things happen.
Because things happen, and next time they may not be just minor scares.

Anyway, hope all is well there … always good to be prepared, sincerely hope it’s for naught.
I do now, but only after going through the tornado in May. It made me think of everything else that could go wrong, and prepare for it!
