add title. add practice. add stamina. remember loyalty. goodbye ghost, hello wordpress (again)

It’s no secret that the economy is headed to the toilet. And so, even though Ghost is a lovely platform and one you should definitely consider as an alternative to Substack, I decided to stick with WordPress. I was already paying the $48 over here anyway–– why spend more for pretty much the same thing? Will you now do me the honor of subscribing here?

Confidential to my 44 (!) subscribers who just got spammed with my back posts from Ghost. OMG HI!!!! YOU ARE STILL HERE? I LOVE YOU!

Very exciting. Honestly, discovering that I still had subscribers on here is like finding $20 in a winter jacket: an unasked-for but most welcome gift from the past. Thank you, 2005 me! Thank you, readers from long ago! Can we dare to dream again on the same platform where we met all those years ago? Say hello, won’t you?

_______________________________________________

I’ve gone back and forth and back again on platforms and what they all do, and the big takeaway lesson in all this is, it doesn’t matter.

I’m lucky that we live in this strange and magical time when anyone with a voice and something to say can self-publish and, through the magic of the internet, they can find their audience. But in order to have an audience, young grasshopper, first you need to write. And you need to write a lot. Daily. Twice a day. Somewhere, I read that Stephen King writes 2000 words a day and honestly, that sounds low now that I write it out. Then again, writing 2k words is banging out a 10-minute read on a daily basis and when put in that format, damn, that’s impressive.

(For perspective, the esssays I’ve been producing lately clock in anywhere between 400 to 600 words. That’s about a 3-minute read. Look. I don’t want to bore you and I’m a recovering Twitterer. Character counts are stigmatizing but they also keep your prose lean.)

If you want to write, write. If you want to read, read. If you want to get to a point where you want to feel like you’re not lost all the time and can have a little perspective, practice. This brings me to the inspiration for the title of my now kind of defunct (maybe?) corner of the internet: I called it Daily Practice, because that is what I aspired for it to be. Practice. Kinda daily. And so, let me begin to push the boulder up the mountain again.

Won’t you please subscribe?
